Managers ensure that everyone gets there alive; they empower the vision. Managers need to be trusted for their ability to support, facilitate and ensure that it can be done.
Leadership and Management are two very different and distinctive skill sets. They should never be confused. More importantly the best managers and leaders have an intrinsic ability that cannot be taught. Build on this ability through training and experience and you have the right people in the right place to breath life into your teams.
The biggest challenge to the health of your teams is the belief that excellence in delivery is a sign of leadership or management ability. Leadership and Management is a specific role in itself and should be developed accordingly. It is is no longer about rank or reward; it is about specialised skills.
